Robin App
For the Spring 2024 Rutgers Introduction to UXD class, we partnered with a fictional client, Robin, to explore how AI can benefit users during their job-seeking process. With a background defined by tech layoffs and a competitive job market, the goal was to design an AI-enhanced product that not only streamlines job applications but also serves as a trusted companion in every stage of the job search.

Challenge:
Design an AI-enhanced platform that simplifies the fragmented job search process.

Solution:
Robin is an integrated application that automates resume tailoring, and delivers insights to empower job seekers in landing their next opportunity.
Research
Our research goal was to understand the needs, preferences, and challenges that job seekers face when managing their job search process.
Some of the key areas we focused on our research were:

-
Identify how an AI-enhanced product could support job seekers, whether they are students entering the job market, unemployed candidates, or employed professionals seeking new opportunities.
-
Discover what aspects of the job search process are most valued by users.
-
Get job seekers’ perspectives on the use of AI during their job search and whether they believe AI can add value.
Interviews
As a group, we conducted both in-person and virtual interviews to gather in-depth insights from users.
Some of the quotes from our interviewees were:

Survey
Among the questions that we asked users through our surveys online, were how would they like AI to help them during their job seeking process. Results showed that most of the users would like AI to make their CV attractive according to the skills required for the position.

Key Insights

User Persona
This information helped us create our user persona: Jefferson.
Jefferson is a 35 year old man, who recently got laid off from his company, and started looking for a new job.

User Journey
After drafting our persona, we focused on their journey. Jefferson is actively networking and looking for job opportunities, but he also prioritizes spending time with is family as he is trying to find a healthy work-life balance.

Ideation
Low Fidelity Mockups: Sketches
We started our ideation process by doing a Crazy 8's exercise, which consisted of each member of our team taking 8 minutes to create 8 ideas, each idea taking up one minute. We drew up a few sketches of what we considered the most important features the app should have based on our previous research. These sketches and exercise helped us visualize our ideas.

Once each of us finished our sketches, we met up to discuss our ideas and put together a new set of sketches combining our ideas together. These sketches helped us stayed organized before moving to wireframing.

Mid Fidelity Mockups: Wireframes
Once we gathered key ideas about users' needs, we created a few wireframes. This helped me us visualize the flow in depth and iterate on the options. After building, we built the prototype and it was ready for the Heuristic Evaluation.

Heuristic Evaluation
After finishing the initial wireframes, with our team, we decided to conduct a Heuristic Evaluation. Once we reviewed all the screens, we assigned severity ratings, and noticed that there were a few aspects that could be improved before continuing to user testing.

Final Iterations
After finishing the initial wireframes, with our team, we decided to conduct a Heuristic Evaluation. Once we reviewed all the screens, we assigned severity ratings, and noticed that there were a few aspects that could be improved before continuing to user testing.

App Features
Some of the features that we brainstormed for Robin are:

Wellness Resources
The Wellness Resources feature feature on Robin allows users to have a break from their job application journey. Life should not be all about working and applying to jobs. On this feature, users can log their emotions, listen to background music, podcasts, have a stretching routine, and just overall relax.

Job Application Tracker
After applying to the jobs that were recommended to you, users can check where their application status stands and as the user’s application status moves forward, each step will have actions to take that would help the user. We know how nervous the job process can be, we want to help ease users and provide them with confidence to nail their interview or build a bridge with the company and recruiter.

Recommended Courses
In the Learning section of the app, Users are given the chance to able to learn skills that can help them better their career easily through Robin. From learning different code languages to learning a new programs and more, Robin is able to help you unlock a new skill and make you more knowledgable
What I learned:
While working on this project, I learned how to collaborate at every stage of the design process, from research to prototyping. Converting user data into actionable insights challenged me to think about real user pain points and how AI could support the job searching journey.
I enjoyed my experience with techniques like Crazy 8’s, which helped us quickly generate ideas based on our research. Overall, this experience reinforced the importance of teamwork, as diverse perspectives and collaboration led to stronger, more user-centered solutions.
